Laboratory Testing
Mahaya Health Services offers a range of laboratory services. The testing we offer can help with a more accurate assessment and diagnosis and help us understand the cause of your health concern, and will provide us with information that will be used to develop a more effective treatment strategy to help you achieve better health. Laboratory assessments will also allow us to monitor your progress and health.
Blood tests
We use Gamma Dynacare Laboratories for sample collection and processing – they are located steps away from our clinic. They collect and process your specimen, and promptly provide us with the results of your blood work. This can yield information about everything from cholesterol and blood glucose to more specific markers of disease and imbalance.
Common tests panels include:
Complete Blood Count (CBC) – used primarily as a blood screening test, and can be used to diagnose and monitor certain conditions such as anemia, reaction to infections, inflammation, leukemia, and polycythemia. It can help uncover reasons for generalized fatigue and weakness.
Lipid panel – measures and monitors your levels of cholesterol, high-density lipoprotein (HDL), low-density lipoprotein (LDL), and triglycerides. It is used to assess your overall cardiovascular health, and can indicate if you have a high risk for coronary heart disease, heart attack, and stroke.
Liver enzymes – used to detect, evaluate, and monitor liver disease or liver damage associated with conditions such as hepatitis, cancer, bone problems, gall bladder disorders, jaundice, alcoholism, and prescription and recreational drug toxicity.
Hormone Panel – measures and monitors estrogen levels if you are a woman who has abnormal menstrual cycles, abnormal or heavy bleeding, infertility, symptoms of menopause, PCOS, and more.
Thyroid Profile – evaluates thyroid gland function and helps to diagnose thyroid disorders. The test measures the amount of thyroid hormones in your blood – chemical substances that control or regulate your body’s metabolism. It can help in the evaluation of symptoms such as fatigue, weight gain or loss, heart palpitations, emotional instability, and nervousness, changes in bowel movements, edema, and hair loss.
Chemistry panel – can be used to determine if your kidneys are functionally normally, and to monitor treatment for kidney disease or kidney function while on certain medications.
Urinalysis
Analyzing a urine sample gives us information that can help better understand and monitor your health. Some things we can determine are your electrolyte balance and kidney function. A urinalysis can also help diagnose urinary tract infections and kidney failure, and allows us to check for the onset of any complications associated with Diabetes, Hypertension, or prescription medicines with nephrotoxicity.
Hair Analysis
Some practitioner use this in order to assess long-term deficiencies and toxicities of selected nutrients and heavy metals which may be contributing to specific health concerns – the results will allow your practitioner to develop a more specific treatment strategy to address your concerns.
Salivary Hormone testing
A non-invasive diagnostic tool, salivary testing can assess hormone imbalance that leads to symptoms including decreased sex drive, insomnia, weight gain, mood swings and hot flashes, infertility, menstrual irregularities, and more. Through analyzing the levels of hormones in the saliva, valuable information is gained about stress, thyroid function, female and male hormones, and helps to create a treatment plan specific to your needs.
Parasite Testing
Stool samples are used to isolate parasites so that an appropriate and specific treatment can be applied to eliminate pathogens. This may be helpful if you have chronic digestive problems, difficulties with absorption and malnutrition, or have been feeling ill since having travelled overseas.
IgG Food Allergy Testing – Blood Spot
This is one of several food allergy and sensitivity tests available and helps to determine your body’s immune response to a list of common foods and allergens.
Neurotransmitter testing
Measuring your levels of neurotransmitters can help to determine factors involved in mood imbalances, depression, and sleep disorders.
